Director Jennifer Neumayer

Hello, my name is Jennifer Neumayer and I am the Director of Hastings Ranch Nursery School.  I graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies, a K-8 teaching credential and a Masters Degree in Child and Adolescent Literacy with a Reading Specialist credential. I taught elementary school for 9 years and found my way to HRNS when my son started in Purple Door in 2012. I have enjoyed being a parent, board member, and staff member here. I believe all kids deserve to have a safe and nurturing environment that encourages children to learn and grow.   I have two children of my own that keep me very busy with their extracurricular activities.

"I became an HRNS staff member two years ago.  I truly enjoying working at the school where my children developed a love for learning.  I also learned much about children and parenthood, and made lifetime friendships, during the six years that my children attended HRNS.  My hope is that current HRNS children (and parents) have many positive social and educational experiences that encourage a deep desire to expand upon their knowledge and relationships."

Red Door Teacher - Miss Penny

  • Graduated from USC.
  • Majored in Communications.
I have two girls and a husband I cherish. I love teaching preschoolers and being a part of their lives. My two girls attended HRNS, I served on the board and I was fortunate enough to get hired!  I am now starting my 10th year with HRNS.

Yellow Door Teacher - Miss Alyson

My name is Alyson Shivley and I am a Lead Teacher in Yellow Door. In a previous life I worked as a Systems Analyst for Los Angeles County, having graduated from Cal State L.A. with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems. I first came to HRNS as a parent when my twin daughters began as students in 2009. When the time for Kindergarten came around, my girls were ready to move on but I wasn’t! I loved everything about my parent work days, and knew in my heart that HRNS was the right place for me. I went back to school and got enough Early Education credits to begin working as a Teacher’s Assistant during the ’12-’13 school year (??) and I have been here (an in school!) ever since. I believe deeply in the nurturing, caring philosophy of HRNS, and I am honored to have been a part of this “family of families” for so many years.

Purple Door Teacher - Miss Nikki

I graduated from California State University, Los Angeles in 2012 with my B.A. in Urban Learning with an emphasis in elementary special education. I am currently pursuing my M.A. in Early Childhood Special Education from CSULA.  I am having my first child this year and over the moon excited to be welcoming her in early October. She will attend HRNS as I did. Yes, I am an alumni and I take great pride in our school and its history of being a play-based, cooperative nursery school. I have been working at HRNS for the past two years and I love it. I am very passionate about child's play and helping them develop social skills. I am also very passionate about children's literature and I love children's books (as you can see by our ever growing library in purple door and my house!). I have hopes to write one someday.  I also love hiking, gardening, and generally being outdoors. I have a great respect for bugs but despite how cool and calm I may appear in front of the kids, I'm very afraid of many of them.  I have been working with children, young and old, since I was a teenager. Now at HRNS, I really get a chance to work collaboratively with families and staff. I love learning and being in this environment, I get to learn something new every day.

Purple Door Teacher - Miss Angie

Miss Angie grew up in Indiana, and graduated from Purdue University with degrees in Biology and Chemistry. She moved to the Pasadena area about 11 years ago with her family, and has been enjoying the SoCal sunshine ever since! Both her children were students at HRNS, she was a board member and worked a lot as a sub in the classroom.

My children were finished at HRNS, but I wasn't ready to leave! I was lucky to be able to join the staff and continue working with children." Having children at HRNS and seeing the 'learning through play' philosophy at work everyday inspired her to go back to school to become a early-childhood teacher. "I love coming to work and seeing each child grow, learn, and experience something new and exciting. It really does put a smile on my face every day!
