Blue Door AM Teacher - Miss Alyson
My name is Alyson Shivley and I am a Lead Teacher in Blue Door. In a previous life I worked as a Systems Analyst for Los Angeles County, having graduated from Cal State L.A. with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems. I first came to HRNS as a parent when my twin daughters began as students in 2009. When the time for Kindergarten came around, my girls were ready to move on but I wasn’t! I loved everything about my parent work days, and knew in my heart that HRNS was the right place for me. I went back to school and got enough Early Education credits to begin working as a Teacher’s Assistant in 2013 and I have been here ever since. I believe deeply in the nurturing, caring philosophy of HRNS, and I am honored to have been a part of this “family of families” for so many years.

"I truly enjoy working at the school where my children developed a love for learning. I also learned much about children and parenthood, and made lifetime friendships, during the six years that my children attended HRNS. My hope is that current HRNS children (and parents) have many positive social and educational experiences that encourage a deep desire to expand upon their knowledge and relationships."

I first came to Hastings Ranch Nursery School as a parent in 2012. We spent 5 years at Hastings Ranch Nursery School as a family. I loved my volunteer days so much I didn’t want to leave! I found my way back here in 2021 and have been happily working at HRNS as a Teacher Assistant and Lead Teacher. I am a better parent for all the things I learned at HRNS and now I get to share my experiences with new parents and students. I am a self-taught artist, a trained chef, and in the years between I have worked as an ultrasound tech. I am continually taking Child Development classes at PCC to continue learning. I am a lifelong student. I truly believe that HRNS builds a strong foundation for the love of learning. I am so excited to be sharing my love of art, nature and community and foster the spirit of Hastings Ranch Nursery School- learning to live and play together.

I am a mother of two wonderful children ages 7 & 4 that both attended Hastings Ranch Nursery School as did I some 30+ years ago! When I was not working for HRNS, I was a member of the board of directors. I have been a part of our family of families for 10 years now and could not be more proud of where we are today. Our sweet school has a long and storied history. This school and it’s supportive community have overcome mountains, no volcanoes of difficulty, yet it still thrives. It thrives because of families like yours, those of you looking for the right fit. If you believe in the power of play, you are in the right place! When I am not busy doing all things “mom” or all things “preschool” I love hiking and being in nature. I love to garden and read books. I’m inspired by children’s literature and it’s great power to teach children more about our world and about themselves. I truly enjoy seeking out the right book to reflect back our family of families and all the beautiful ways humans can live and be in this wide world we live in. As the 2’s and early 3’s teacher, my focus is on social skills. As we enter this post Covid era, this will be a skill ALL our students will need. My goal is to teach social skills in a fun, play-based, supportive environment. I’m so excited to get to know your children and yourself and to learn a little bit more each and every day.

Hey, everybody. My name is Bill Sy. I'm the admin at HRNS. I'm a former parent at the school and my son is now at Willard Elementary. My wife is middle school teacher in PUSD. Before becoming a stay-at-home dad, I grew up in Saudi Arabia and spent fifteen years in the entertainment industry after moving out from Michigan after college. HRNS is a special place to me and my family and I'm looking forward to doing my small part in making it that for you, too.
