Parent Support Group

  • Hastings Ranch Nursery School 3740 East Sierra Madre Boulevard Pasadena, CA, 91107 United States (map)

No one ever teaches you how to be a parent…

Why should I try a support group for parents?

  • Talk about experiences and gain feedback without being judged or criticized.
  • Develop positive parenting solutions in a respectful environment.
  • Improve relationships with your children

How are the groups run?

Parents are the experts – at least about their own families. Therefore, parents discuss the parenting issues that are most important to them. I facilitate the group to help things run smoothly and to introduce a variety of useful parenting techniques.

“We would cry together, laugh together, be angry together and admit mistakes together without any fear of criticism.”

Children, Adolescents and Parents

I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with over 20 years of experience in the treatment of children, adolescents, and families.  I have Bachelor and Masters degrees in Human Development and Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena.  For the last 16 years I have served as an instructor of parent education through Pasadena Community College.  In addition to my community college teaching I maintain a private practice where I conduct small group sessions, in-home assessments and community-based interventions.

I believe that each person and age group has different needs within a therapy setting. I choose to work with individuals and families in their own environments and encourage interactive talk therapy to create a safe, compassionate and dynamic approach to support systemic change. Areas of particular focus and expertise are infant and child mental health with children 0-5, school-age children, adolescents and parent coaching.
When working with children & adolescents, I believe that the most important person in a child's life is the parent or caregiver. I see the partnership that is formed between the therapist and parent/caregiver as an integral part of work. I keep parents involved throughout treatment, providing feedback on how their child is progressing and providing tools to support parenting efforts outside the therapy hour.

I have provided numerous training workshops for clinicians, teachers and parents. I have presented on topics such as positive parenting, attachment & bonding, effects of trauma on young children, development, assessing the parent-child relationship, and improving communication techniques within a family.
